VirtualBox 1.6

Hey guys!

VirtualBox 1.6 came out on May 2 2008, so I downloaded it a few minutes ago, and it runs everything great on my Windows XP lappy!

“The first major release since

being acquired by

Sun Microsystems is now available.”

Some of the new features are PAE (yay!), and Solaris host support, there are many more new features so check out the full changelog!

I recommend everyone upgrades to this new version, plus it’s free so what can you lose?

Although not recommended (nor supported), I hear that older versions of VirtualBox are on floating around on the web. So if you don’t like 1.6 you can switch back to an old version that works.

The smallest distro in the world!

I just uploaded the last version of DeLi Linux, a Linux Distribution for old computers, from 486 to Pentium II.

You can download it by clicking here.

To use the GUI, you have to type startx from the command line.

Nexenta GNU/OpenSolaris is here!

I just uploaded Nexenta 1.0!

You can download it here.

I splitted the image in three different segments: nexenta-1.0.x86__a, nexenta-1.0.x86__b and nexenta-1.0.x86__c.

To use this image you have to download all the segments in which the image was splitted and concatenate the files into a single .7z file.

If you are under a UNIX-like system, you have to use the cat command:

cat nexenta-1.0.x86__a nexenta-1.0.x86__b nexenta-1.0.x86__c > nexenta-1.0.x86.7z

If you are under Windows, you can use the copy command from the command prompt (MS-DOS prompt in all Windows versions up to Windows Millennium Edition), as such:

verify on
copy /b nexenta-1.0.x86__a + nexenta-1.0.x86__b + nexenta-1.0.x86__c nexenta-1.0.x86.7z

CentOS 5.1 is here!

I just uploaded CentOS 5.1!

You can download it here.

I splitted the image in two different segments: centos-5.1-x86_a and centos-5.1-x86_b.

To use this image you have to download all the segments in which the image was splitted and concatenate the files into a single .7z file.

If you are under a UNIX-like system, you have to use the cat command:

cat centos-5.1-x86_a centos-5.1-x86_b > centos-5.1-x86.7z

If you are under Windows, you can use the copy command from the command prompt (MS-DOS prompt in all Windows versions up to Windows Millennium Edition), as such:

verify on
copy /b centos-5.1-x86_a + centos-5.1-x86_b centos-5.1-x86.7z

P.S.: to register this image, rename centos-5.1-x86.vdi.vdi to centos-5.1-x86.vdi!

Mailing list for technical support created

As the project audience has exceeded the initial expectations, and technical support request were getting more and more frequent, the need for us to have a place where everyone (including, but not limited to, the contributors) could help other users solve their problems arose. The mail form you used to find there has been therefore removed, and we’ve rolled up a mailing list?, located at

virtualboximage-support at lists.sourceforge.net

to which you can subscribe by clicking here. Subscription is needed if you want to post requests; mailing list archives (updates every 6÷24 hours) are available there if you only want to browse them, instead.

There is also an email-based interface for users of our list; you can get info about using it by sending a message with just the word `help’ as subject or in the body, to

virtualboximage-support-request at lists.sourceforge.net

The support page has been updated to reflect the change.

Even More Distros To Come!

Hey, I’m Scotty from over at RIBO Labs, and I’m pleased to say that I’m now part of the VirtualBox Image team!

Next week I will be uploading gOS 2.9, and intux. Then Ubuntu 8.04, and Fedora 9 shortly after their releases, to say nothing about what the other members will be uploading!

registerimage 1.0.1 is here!

I fixed a little but annoying bug in registerimage.

This new version only takes two arguments:

  1. The path to the .xml configuration file of the VM you want to add;
  2. The path to your VirtualBox.xml;

You can download the source here and the Windows binary here.
